    Evidence is insufficient for clinically useful weight loss. This has been studied extensively, and the answer is consistent: meta-analyses of green tea catechin trials find average weight reductions of roughly 1-1.5 kg over 12 weeks compared with placebo, an effect that is statistically detectable but below the threshold generally considered clinically meaningful, and one that does not persist in maintenance studies. Effects are larger in Asian populations and in people with low habitual caffeine intake, which suggests much of it is caffeine. Set against GLP-1 receptor agonists, structured dietary intervention and resistance training, this is negligible - and the hepatotoxicity risk at higher doses makes the risk-benefit balance unfavourable.
