    As thiamine pyrophosphate it drives pyruvate and alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, gating carbohydrate entry into the citric acid cycle.

    If you are replete, expect nothing - controlled trials of B-vitamin dosing in replete adults show no consistent effect on subjective energy

    Safety

    Caveats

    Energy claims for B vitamins in replete people are marketing, not evidence. Persistent fatigue needs investigation for anaemia, thyroid disease, sleep apnoea and depression. No established toxic oral ceiling for thiamine; parenteral forms carry rare anaphylaxis risk. Safe in pregnancy at normal doses, and specifically needed in hyperemesis gravidarum under medical care.

    Less likely to help if

    People with normal thiamine status, and those whose fatigue is from iron deficiency, thyroid disease, sleep disorder or depression.
