- Evidence indicates no demonstrated effect. Preclinical work shows resveratrol influences proteostasis pathways in models - inducing heat shock proteins, activating autophagy through AMPK and mTOR signalling, and reducing aggregation of amyloid-beta, alpha-synuclein and polyglutamine proteins in cell culture and in worm and fly models of proteinopathy. This is genuinely interesting cell biology. No human study has measured chaperone expression, autophagic flux, protein aggregation or any proteostasis endpoint after resveratrol, and the one substantial clinical trial in a proteinopathy - the 12-month Alzheimer disease trial at up to 1,000 mg twice daily - found no clinical benefit and greater brain volume loss in the treated arm.
