    Resveratrol was proposed to activate SIRT1 and mimic caloric restriction, but later work showed much of the original activation was an artefact of the fluorescent assay used.

    Evidence indicates no effect. Epigenetic clocks - Horvath, Hannum, GrimAge, PhenoAge, DunedinPACE - estimate biological age from DNA methylation patterns and are genuinely useful research tools, correlating with mortality and disease risk at population level. No randomised trial has tested resveratrol against any epigenetic clock. The broader resveratrol foundation has also weakened: the original SIRT1 activation was challenged as an assay artefact, the NIA Interventions Testing Program found no lifespan extension in normally-fed mice, and key early papers from one laboratory were subject to misconduct findings. Claims of epigenetic age reversal with resveratrol have no human data behind them at all.

    What the studies say

    Human randomised trials show negligible metabolic benefit in healthy people, and one trial in older men found resveratrol blunted the beneficial training adaptations of exercise. Observational data on dietary resveratrol found no association with longevity.
