- Evidence is insufficient. Verbal fluency - typically measured by category or letter fluency tasks - is a standard, well-validated neuropsychological measure, which makes its absence from the lion's mane literature notable. The main human trial in older adults with mild cognitive impairment used a composite Japanese cognitive scale rather than fluency subtests, and no subsequent study has reported verbal fluency as an endpoint. Anecdotal reports of easier word-finding are common among users, but word-finding difficulty fluctuates substantially with sleep, stress, mood and time of day, and unblinded self-assessment cannot distinguish a real effect from expectation. There is simply no data to support or refute this claim.
