- Take with food. Evidence is mixed and, for learning speed specifically, largely absent. Animal studies report faster acquisition on maze and avoidance tasks after lion's mane, consistent with NGF-mediated effects on hippocampal function, and one acute human study reported improved performance on some cognitive tasks within hours, which is difficult to reconcile with a neurotrophic mechanism requiring weeks. The 16-week trial in older adults with mild cognitive impairment measured a general cognitive scale, not learning rate. So there is no human trial testing whether lion's mane increases the speed of acquiring new skills or information, and any claim to that effect extrapolates from rodents.
