    How It Works

    Tyrosine is the precursor to dopamine and noradrenaline, and precursor availability becomes limiting only when catecholamine turnover is high, such as under heat, sleep loss or prolonged exertion.

    Take on an empty stomach, away from protein, to avoid transporter competition. Evidence is mixed and does not directly address motivation. Exercise studies of tyrosine have focused on performance in the heat, where results are genuinely inconsistent - some trials report improved time to exhaustion during exercise in hot conditions, plausibly through central catecholamine support when heat stress depletes dopamine, while others show nothing. Motivation to train is not an endpoint in any of these trials. The theoretical link is that dopamine underpins effort-based decision making, so supporting catecholamine synthesis under fatigue might sustain willingness to work - but that is extrapolation, and in rested individuals tyrosine has no measurable effect.
