Evidence is moderate for the cognitive outcomes actually measured and absent for motivation as such. Randomised trials show tyrosine preserves working memory, cognitive flexibility and task performance under acute stressors - cold, noise, sleep deprivation, multitasking - by supporting catecholamine synthesis when demand outstrips supply. Dopamine is central to effort-based decision making, so the inference to motivation is reasonable, but no trial has measured motivation, drive or effort allocation directly. Critically, tyrosine does nothing in rested, unstressed people, because tyrosine hydroxylase rather than substrate availability limits synthesis.

    Caveats

    No benefit without a stressor; avoid with MAOIs and thyroid medication (tyrosine is also a thyroid hormone precursor); can worsen anxiety in some.
