- Evidence is insufficient. No randomised trial has examined L-theanine for sexual stamina, erectile function, libido or any sexual endpoint. The theanine literature concerns anxiety, stress responses, sleep and attention. A speculative case can be made - performance anxiety contributes to sexual difficulty, and theanine reduces anxiety - but this is inference layered on inference, with no supporting data and no mechanism specific to sexual physiology. Theanine has no known effect on nitric oxide signalling, testosterone or genital blood flow, which are the pathways relevant to sexual function. Its inclusion in products marketed for this purpose reflects marketing rather than evidence.
