- Evidence is insufficient. Rhodiola has demonstrated effects on fatigue and on the cortisol awakening response in randomised trials, and it is described as an adaptogen modulating HPA axis activity - which is the origin of broader endocrine claims. No trial has measured DHEA or DHEA-sulfate before and after rhodiola supplementation at any dose, and there is no mechanistic pathway by which a plant extract would increase adrenal androgen synthesis. DHEA declines with age, and if raising it is the goal, DHEA itself is available as a supplement in some jurisdictions and as a prescription elsewhere, with its own limited evidence base and clear hormonal effects.
