DHEA Enhancement
Increased dehydroepiandrosterone for vitality and hormone balance.
TL;DR
DHEA falls roughly 80% from its twenties peak. Supplementation raises levels reliably but produces meaningful clinical benefit only in adrenal insufficiency and some cases of diminished ovarian reserve — not in healthy adults.
Why It Matters
DHEA-S is the most abundant circulating steroid and a substrate for both androgens and oestrogens. Low levels accompany adrenal insufficiency, chronic steroid use, and severe chronic illness.
How to Measure
Biomarkers
Optimization Protocol
Test DHEA-S before considering supplementation; do not dose blind. If genuinely low and clinically indicated, 25-50 mg daily under supervision with follow-up testing at 12 weeks. Sleep, resistance training and adequate energy intake support endogenous production.
Supporting Supplements
Magnesium
No meaningful evidence links magnesium to DHEA levels; its hormonal relevance is chiefly to testosterone in deficient men.
Rhodiola Rosea
Rhodiola supports stress resilience but has no demonstrated effect on DHEA levels.
