    Beta-Glucans for Cholesterol Management

    Oat and barley beta-glucan at 3 g/day lowers LDL cholesterol by roughly 5-8%. This is one of the very few supplement effects to have cleared both EFSA and FDA health-claim review, and it is dose-dependent and reproducible.

    High molecular weight matters. Heavily processed or hydrolysed products lose viscosity and much of the effect.

    Safety

    An addition, not a replacement

    A 5 to 7 percent LDL reduction is worthwhile but far smaller than statin therapy delivers. If you have been prescribed lipid-lowering medication, add beta-glucan alongside it rather than in place of it.
