- Evidence indicates no benefit. The rationale is that oxidative damage accelerates telomere attrition in cultured cells, and antioxidants slow it in vitro. In humans this has not been demonstrated: observational associations between antioxidant intake and telomere length reflect overall diet and lifestyle, and no randomised trial has shown vitamin E supplementation lengthens or preserves telomeres. Telomere measurement is also highly variable between methods and between blood draws, and shortening is slow enough that detecting an intervention effect would require years and very large samples.
