Confirm you have autoimmune thyroiditis· Before starting
The evidence applies to people with raised thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Without that, there is no established rationale.

Antibody titre is the endpoint that moved in the trials; TSH and free T4 tell you whether function changed.

Weigh the diabetes signal
Long-term supplementation in selenium-replete populations has been associated with increased type 2 diabetes risk. Against an antibody change with no proven symptom benefit, that trade-off deserves an explicit decision.

Never adjust thyroid medication yourself
Levothyroxine dosing is set by blood results and prescriber judgement. Selenium does not change that requirement.
