BCAAs for Enhanced Athletic Performance
BCAAs raise the muscle protein synthesis signal but cannot supply the substrate to sustain it. In people already eating adequate protein, controlled trials show no meaningful advantage for strength, hypertrophy or performance over whole protein — and whole protein is usually cheaper.

Caveats
The core caveat is opportunity cost rather than harm: the money buys three amino acids when whey buys all twenty plus roughly the same leucine. Chronic high intakes sit awkwardly alongside the BCAA-insulin resistance literature.
