    Abstract

    Clinical study on Lion's mane mushroom effects on cognitive function

    Methodology

    Double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group trial with 50 adults (50-80 years) with mild cognitive impairment. Participants received 250mg Lions Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) extract four times daily (1000mg total) or placebo for 16 weeks followed by 4-week washout. Cognitive function assessed using standardized scales. Also measured nerve growth factor (NGF) biomarkers.

Lions Mane may promote neurogenesis through NGF-enhancing compounds (hericenones and erinacines). Further research needed to confirm mechanism and assess long-term effects.
