    How It Works

    EPA and DHA reduce hepatic VLDL production and increase lipoprotein lipase-mediated triglyceride clearance, indirectly shifting HDL particle concentration upward.

    What the studies say

    Meta-analyses show triglyceride reductions of 20-30 percent at 2-4 g daily of combined EPA and DHA, with HDL increases of only a few percent. Outcome benefit in REDUCE-IT was attributed to icosapent ethyl rather than HDL change.

    No studies are yet linked to both Omega-3 Fatty Acids and HDL Cholesterol Increase.

    Caveats

    High doses slightly increase atrial fibrillation risk in some trials. Discuss with a clinician if on anticoagulants.
