- Evidence is insufficient. Self-confidence is not a measured endpoint in any L-theanine trial. The related literature covers reduced subjective anxiety, blunted cortisol and heart rate responses to acute stressors, and increased EEG alpha activity at 200-400 mg. One might argue that feeling less anxious makes a person appear and feel more confident, and that is not unreasonable - but it is an inference, not a finding, and confidence is a psychological construct shaped by competence, experience and self-belief rather than by acute autonomic arousal. Nothing in the theanine literature supports a claim about confidence, and the outcome is also highly susceptible to expectation effects in unblinded personal use.
