    What the studies say

    Several small randomised controlled trials in infertile men have reported improvements in semen parameters (concentration, motility) with ashwagandha root extract over 90 days, and one trial reported higher pregnancy rates in partners, though replication by independent groups is lacking. Evidence is stronger for stress-related infertility than for unexplained infertility broadly.

    Caveats

    Rare reports of liver injury with ashwagandha products; avoid if liver disease. May increase thyroid hormone levels. Avoid testosterone boosters entirely when trying to conceive.

    Less likely to help if

    Men with azoospermia, obstructive causes, untreated varicocele, or infertility from chemotherapy or genetic causes.
