    Published in Clinical Nutrition ESPEN

    Methodology

Systematic review of randomized trials of probiotics, prebiotics or synbiotics in scleroderma, with outcomes including symptom scales, quality of life and SIBO eradication.

    Key Findings

Trials were few and small; probiotic interventions did not demonstrate reliable SIBO eradication or symptom benefit in scleroderma.

    Conclusions

Evidence is insufficient to recommend probiotics for SIBO in scleroderma.

    Limitations

Very few RCTs; high risk of bias; indirect population.

    Supplements Studied

    Probiotics
    Probiotic

The use of probiotic formulas brings benefit in treatment of various autoimmune diseases, but the evidence for scleroderma is still not exhaustive.
