Pterostilbene on Metabolic Parameters: A Randomized, Double-Blind, and Placebo-Controlled Trial

Abstract
Clinical trial demonstrating pterostilbene (125mg twice daily) significantly improves glycemic control and reduces blood pressure in type 2 diabetes patients over 6-8 weeks with excellent safety profile.
Methodology
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel-group trial with pterostilbene alone and with grape extract.
Key Findings
In 80 adults, pterostilbene 125 mg twice daily lowered systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared with placebo (roughly 7.8 and 7.3 mmHg) over 6-8 weeks. There was no significant improvement in glucose or lipid parameters, and LDL cholesterol rose in the high-dose pterostilbene-only group. No safety signals were seen in the companion safety analysis.
Conclusions
Pterostilbene lowers blood pressure modestly at 250 mg/day but did not improve glycaemic control; claims of glucose benefit are not supported by this trial.
Limitations
Small sample, short duration, single centre, mixed participant metabolic profiles, surrogate endpoints, and an unexplained LDL increase in one arm.
