Methodology
Random-effects meta-analysis of 8 randomized controlled trials of artichoke supplementation on blood pressure
Key Findings
Pooled analysis found no significant effect on systolic blood pressure. Subgroup analysis suggested reductions in hypertensive patients (SBP -3.19 mmHg, DBP -2.33 mmHg) but none in NAFLD patients; 8-week interventions showed no DBP benefit.
Conclusions
Artichoke does not lower blood pressure overall; any benefit appears restricted to hypertensive patients and longer interventions.
Limitations
Subgroup findings hypothesis-generating; implausibly narrow confidence intervals and few trials per subgroup.
Supplements Studied
Pooled analysis of eight randomized controlled trials revealed that artichoke supplementation did not have an effect on systolic blood pressure
Outcomes Measured
artichoke supplementation did not have an effect on systolic blood pressure
