    NHANES 2001-2018 cross-sectional analysis of 5014 adults combined with a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials of probiotics, prebiotics or yogurt lasting at least 6 months in MASLD or NASH.

    Probiotic/prebiotic intake was associated with MASLD status in NHANES, and pooled trials reported liver-function improvements over at least 6 months.

    Prebiotics and probiotics may modestly benefit liver function in MASLD, though observational and trial evidence differ in strength.

    Cross-sectional component cannot establish causality; trials small with surrogate endpoints.
