Mohammadi S, Ashtary-Larky D, Mehrbod M, Kouhi Sough N, Salehi Omran H
Published in Inflammopharmacology
Methodology
Systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of 53 randomized controlled trials of whey, casein or milk protein on cytokines and adipokines in adults
Key Findings
No substantial effects on CRP, TNF-alpha, adiponectin or leptin; a small significant reduction in IL-6 (-0.25 pg/mL).
Conclusions
Milk protein supplementation, including casein, does not meaningfully alter systemic inflammatory markers.
Limitations
Mixed protein types pooled; heterogeneous populations and assay methods; single significant marker may reflect chance.
Supplements Studied
This study revealed that MP supplementation may not have any considerable impacts on the levels of cytokines and adipokines.
