Methodology
Randomised controlled trial of 6 g/day D-aspartic acid for 14 days in male boxers during 11 days of nocturnal normobaric hypoxia, measuring LH, testosterone, cortisol and haematology
Key Findings
D-aspartic acid had no significant effect on resting luteinising hormone, testosterone or the testosterone/cortisol ratio; haematological gains came from hypoxia in both groups.
Conclusions
Even under a hormonally stressful training stimulus, D-aspartic acid did not alter androgen status.
Limitations
Very small sample; short duration; specialised athlete population.
Supplements Studied
The results showed that DAA had no significant effect on resting, LH, or the testosterone/cortisol ratio during the training camp.
