    Methodology

    Systematic review and meta-analysis of RCTs on artichoke supplementation and cardiometabolic markers, databases searched to September 2024

    Key Findings

    Reductions in BMI, systolic BP -2.49 mmHg, diastolic BP -1.53 mmHg, total cholesterol -12.29 mg/dL, LDL-C -10.31 mg/dL, triglycerides -12.85 mg/dL, insulin -1.83 mU/L, HOMA-IR -0.92 and ALT -8.47 U/L. HDL-C, fasting glucose and HbA1c unaffected.

    Conclusions

    Artichoke supplementation improves several lipid, blood pressure, insulin-resistance and liver markers, but not HDL, fasting glucose or HbA1c.

    Limitations

    Heterogeneity across extract types and doses; several pooled estimates rest on few trials.

    Significant lipid profile improvements were observed in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides, with no significant effect on high-density lipoprotein cholesterol
