Why It Matters
Two distinct problems sit under this heading. How to Measure
Macular pigment optical density is measured by heterochromatic flicker photometry at many optometry practices. Dry eye is assessed by tear break-up time, Schirmer testing and the OSDI questionnaire. A dilated retinal exam with OCT imaging remains the core assessment for macular and retinal disease and should be done regardless of supplement use.
