    How It Works

    Vitamin D receptors in skeletal muscle regulate calcium handling and type II fibre function. Deficiency causes proximal myopathy, which reverses on repletion.

    What the studies say

    Meta-analyses show grip strength improvements concentrated in participants with baseline 25(OH)D below roughly 30 nmol/L. Trials in replete populations show no effect, and very high intermittent doses have been associated with increased falls.
