    Take with a fat-containing meal. Evidence is mixed. Vitamin D receptors are expressed on T cells, B cells, monocytes and dendritic cells, and calcitriol has well-characterised effects in vitro: promoting regulatory T cell function, suppressing Th1 and Th17 responses, and shifting cytokine production away from IL-17, IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha toward IL-10. In human trials the picture is inconsistent - some studies show reductions in CRP, IL-6 and TNF-alpha, particularly in deficient or inflammatory-disease populations, while many find no change, and effects on circulating cytokines rarely track with clinical outcomes.
