    How It Works

    Ascorbate is a cofactor for prolyl and lysyl hydroxylases, enzymes that stabilise the collagen triple helix. Without it, collagen is structurally defective, as seen in scurvy.

No trial has measured range of motion or flexibility as an endpoint after vitamin C, so the connection to flexibility is inferred rather than demonstrated.

    What the studies say

    Evidence is strongest at the deficiency end: scurvy causes profound connective tissue failure that resolves with repletion. Trials combining vitamin C with collagen peptides show improved collagen synthesis markers, but vitamin C alone has not been shown to improve flexibility.
