    Overview

    Soil-based probiotics contain spore-forming Bacillus species (B. coagulans, B. subtilis, B. clausii, B. indicus) that remain dormant through stomach acid and germinate in the small intestine. This solves the main weakness of conventional probiotics — poor survival. Human RCTs show modest benefits: B. coagulans reduced bloating and abdominal pain in IBS and functional dyspepsia trials, and a B. subtilis-based multi-strain product reduced markers of gut permeability (post-prandial endotoxemia) in healthy adults. Concerns include theoretical translocation risk in immunocompromised patients and variable strain identification in commercial products.
