    How It Works

    Intact glutathione is broken down by intestinal gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase into its constituent amino acids, which are then reassembled intracellularly — effectively making standard oral dosing an expensive cysteine source.

    What the studies say

    Small trials of liposomal and sublingual glutathione report increases in blood glutathione and improved redox markers over one to six months, but sample sizes are small and industry involvement is common. Head-to-head data against NAC is lacking.

    Safety

    Caveats

    Considerably more expensive than NAC for an uncertain advantage. Standard non-liposomal capsules are poor value.

    Less likely to help if

    Healthy people with normal glutathione status, and anyone using standard non-liposomal oral glutathione, which is poorly absorbed.
