Liver and Detox

    Glutathione Enhancement

Increase in the body's master antioxidant, critical for detoxification, immune function, and cellular protection. Supported by NAC, selenium, and glutathione precursors.

    TL;DR

Oral glutathione is largely broken down before absorption, so precursors work better. NAC and adequate selenium and glycine give the body what it needs to make its own.

    Why It Matters

Glutathione is central to phase II detoxification, redox balance and immune function. Depletion occurs in paracetamol overdose, chronic liver disease, HIV and severe oxidative stress states, and is genuinely clinically significant in those settings.

    How to Measure

    Biomarkers

    Whole blood glutathione
    GSH to GSSG ratio
    Selenium status
    GGT
    Liver enzymes

    Optimization Protocol

Ensure adequate protein for cysteine and glycine, and correct selenium status, since glutathione peroxidase is selenium-dependent. NAC 600-1200 mg daily is the best-supported precursor. Cruciferous vegetables and reduced alcohol intake also help. Liposomal glutathione absorbs better than standard oral forms.
