    Casein's usefulness comes from its digestion speed rather than anything special about its amino acid profile. It clots in the stomach and empties slowly, so a 40 g dose keeps plasma amino acids elevated for six to eight hours instead of the two to three hours you get from whey. Taken before sleep, that turns an overnight window that is normally net catabolic into one that supports myofibrillar protein synthesis. Controlled infusion studies put the increase at roughly 20-25%, and training studies that add pre-sleep protein show greater gains in muscle mass and strength.

    How It Works

    Casein micelles coagulate at gastric pH, forming a semi-solid clot that the stomach releases gradually. That slow gastric emptying produces a low, prolonged rise in plasma amino acids rather than the sharp spike whey delivers, and the leucine concentration stays above the threshold needed to keep mTORC1 signalling active for far longer.

    Safety
