Published in J Dent, Vol. 130, pp. 104433
Methodology
Systematic review and network meta-analysis of 32 parallel randomized trials (4,638 adults) of home-use dentifrices for dentine hypersensitivity, searched to December 2022 (CRD42019154064).
Key Findings
The authors recommended twice-daily dentifrices containing stannous, potassium with or without stannous, or arginine formulations for reducing dentine hypersensitivity pain. Hydroxyapatite was not among the formulations named in the conclusion.
Conclusions
Stannous, potassium (with or without stannous) and arginine dentifrices can be recommended; standardised methodology for hypersensitivity trials is needed.
Limitations
Short-term efficacy only; heterogeneous trial methods; the abstract does not report a hydroxyapatite estimate.
