Methodology
Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised trials of oral vitamin E, omega-3 or both on menopausal hot flushes; 10 papers (1,100 participants) reviewed, nine pooled.
Key Findings
Oral vitamin E alone did not significantly reduce hot flush frequency versus placebo (SMD -0.21, 95% CI -0.47 to 0.04); vitamin E plus omega-3 reduced intensity in two studies (MD -0.35). No serious adverse effects were reported.
Conclusions
The evidence is limited by the small number of trials; larger trials are needed.
Limitations
Few, small trials, several in Persian-language journals; the combination result rests on two studies.
Supplements Studied
showed no significant differences with the placebo
Outcomes Measured
