    Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled 12-month trial of 3-12 mg/day silicon as ch-OSA plus calcium and vitamin D3 in osteopenic women.

    Key Findings

    Bone formation marker PINP rose significantly in the 6 and 12 mg silicon arms; femoral and lumbar BMD changes did not reach significance.

    Conclusions

    ch-OSA had a potentially beneficial effect on bone collagen formation, but no significant BMD effect was demonstrated over 12 months.
