    Vano M, Derchi G, Barone A, Covani U

Published in Quintessence Int, Vol. 45 (8), pp. 703-11

    Methodology

Double-blind randomized trial in 105 people with dentin hypersensitivity: 15% nano-hydroxyapatite fluoride-free toothpaste versus fluoride toothpaste versus placebo (35 per group), brushing for 2 minutes twice daily for 4 weeks; air blast, tactile and visual analogue scale scores at 2 and 4 weeks.

    Key Findings

Cold-air and tactile sensitivity and visual analogue scale scores were significantly lower (P < .001) with nano-hydroxyapatite than with the fluoride or placebo groups at 2 and 4 weeks.

    Conclusions

Fluoride-free nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste gave quick relief within 2 to 4 weeks.

    Limitations

Four-week follow-up; single research group; the abstract does not report funding.

    Supplements Studied

encourage the application of nano-hydroxyapatite in fluoride-free toothpaste as an effective desensitizing agent
