Methodology
Review of human trials of dietary SDA on circulating lipids compared with bioequivalent EPA doses, supplemented by hepatic gene-expression data in swine
Key Findings
Supplementing SDA at 3.7-4.2 g/d (bioequivalent to <=1 g/d EPA) had little impact on triglycerides or total, LDL and HDL cholesterol, mirroring EPA at 1.0-1.5 g/d; some atheroprotective markers such as C-reactive protein and paraoxonase were favourably modified.
Conclusions
At realistic intakes SDA does not meaningfully change blood lipids; its value is EPA status rather than lipid lowering.

Narrative review; animal gene-expression data extrapolated to humans; small underlying human trials.
