    Methodology

    Meta-analysis of 6 randomized controlled trials of carnitine supplementation in women with PCOS

    Key Findings

    Carnitine significantly decreased body weight, BMI, hip and waist circumference, total cholesterol, LDL-C and triglycerides; no significant change in glucose homeostasis parameters.

    Conclusions

    Carnitine supplementation had beneficial effects on weight loss and lipid profiles in women with PCOS, though larger well-designed RCTs are required.

    Limitations

    Limited to women with PCOS; small number of included trials; heterogeneity in dose and duration.
