Al-Ghimlas F, Todd DC
Published in Respirology
Methodology
Systematic review and meta-analysis of four randomized controlled trials (151 patients) of creatine versus placebo during pulmonary rehabilitation in COPD
Key Findings
No effect of creatine on exercise capacity (SMD -0.01, 95% CI -0.42 to 0.22), lower extremity strength (SMD 0.03) or upper limb strength (SMD 0.02) compared with placebo.
Conclusions
Creatine does not improve exercise capacity or strength outcomes during pulmonary rehabilitation in COPD.
Limitations
Only four small trials pooled; variable creatine dosing and rehabilitation protocols.
Supplements Studied
There was no effect of creatine supplementation on exercise capacity (SMD -0.01, 95% CI: -0.42 to 0.22, n = 151)
