Methodology
14-week randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with placebo run-in and run-out phases in male children aged 6-14 with inattention and hyperactivity; 112 recruited, 93 datasets analysed.
Key Findings
No significant behavioural differences between groups. Bacopa reduced error-making (p = .04) and improved cognitive flexibility (p = .01), executive functioning (p = .04), interpersonal problems (p = .02) and sleep routine (p = .04); placebo improved reaction-time speed (p = .04).
Conclusions
CDRI 08 did not improve the primary behavioural outcomes in children with inattention and hyperactivity, but showed some cognitive, mood and sleep benefits.
Limitations
Males only; substantial attrition (112 recruited vs 93 analysed); many secondary endpoints with borderline p values; findings need replication.
Supplements Studied
CDRI 08 did not improve behavioural outcomes, but may have cognitive, mood and sleep benefits in children aged 6 to 14 years.
