Methodology
Randomized placebo-controlled trial of selenium 200 mcg daily in 1312 residents of the eastern USA, originally designed to test prevention of recurrent nonmelanoma skin cancer, with analysis over the complete blinded treatment period.
Key Findings
Selenium did not prevent recurrent nonmelanoma skin cancer (the trial primary aim); the prostate cancer reduction was a secondary finding confined to certain baseline subgroups.
Conclusions
Selenium supplementation cannot be recommended for skin cancer prevention; skin cancer endpoints were not improved.
