Cochrane systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials comparing citicoline with placebo or standard care in adults with acute ischemic stroke.
Key Findings
Citicoline probably results in little to no difference in all-cause mortality and in functional recovery or disability compared with placebo in acute ischemic stroke; evidence certainty was low to moderate.
Conclusions
Current evidence does not support a clinically meaningful benefit of citicoline in acute ischemic stroke.
Limitations
Heterogeneous dosing and timing across included trials; several trials at risk of bias; does not address cognitive supplementation in healthy people.
