Abstract
A Cochrane systematic review assessing the benefits and harms of surgical and non-surgical interventions for Morton's neuroma, an entrapment neuropathy of the interdigital nerve.
Methodology
Comprehensive search of Cochrane-standard databases for RCTs and quasi-RCTs of surgical, corticosteroid injection, alcohol sclerosing injection, orthoses, and other conservative treatments for Morton's neuroma.
Key Findings
Evidence for most treatments was of low or very low certainty; some short-term pain relief was seen with corticosteroid injection and orthoses, but comparative superiority of any one treatment could not be firmly established.
Conclusions
There is insufficient high-quality evidence to strongly recommend one treatment over another for Morton's neuroma; further well-designed RCTs are needed.
Limitations
Few high-quality RCTs available; small sample sizes; high risk of bias in most included studies; short follow-up durations.
