Hung SK, Perry R, Ernst E

Published in Phytomedicine, Vol. 18, pp. 235-244

    Methodology

Systematic review of 11 placebo-controlled RCTs of mono-preparations of R. rosea across six electronic databases, with duplicate study selection, extraction and quality assessment.

    Key Findings

Six trials investigated physical performance, four mental performance and two mental-health conditions. Methodological quality was mostly moderate or good, and only few mild adverse events were reported.

    Conclusions

    R. rosea may have beneficial effects on physical performance, mental performance and certain mental-health conditions, but the evidence base is small and heterogeneous.

    Limitations

Small number of trials, small sample sizes, and heterogeneous extracts and endpoints limit confidence.
