Smyth RM, Aflaifel N, Bamigboye AA
Published in Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews
Methodology
Cochrane systematic review of randomised trials of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, including rutosides, for varicose veins and leg oedema in pregnancy
Key Findings
Rutoside trials in pregnancy were small and provided only low-quality evidence for symptom relief, with insufficient safety data in pregnancy.
Conclusions
Rutosides cannot be recommended in pregnancy on current evidence.
Limitations
Very few trials; small samples; safety in pregnancy not established.
Supplements Studied
Treatments of leg oedema comprise mostly symptom reduction rather than cure and use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.
