Evaluating the effects of Bacopa monnieri on cognitive performance and sleep quality of patients with mild cognitive impairment: A triple-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trial

Methodology
Triple-blinded randomised placebo-controlled trial; 62 patients with mild cognitive impairment took 160 mg/day Bacopa monnieri extract or starch placebo for 2 months, assessed with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index at baseline, 1 month and 2 months.
Key Findings
No significant between-group difference in overall cognitive performance at any time point (P > 0.05). Attention improved significantly at month 1 (P = 0.033) and month 2 (P = 0.004), and verbal fluency at month 2 (P = 0.003).
Conclusions
Bacopa did not improve global cognition in mild cognitive impairment, but produced selective gains in attention and verbal fluency.

Small sample; low dose (160 mg/day); short 8-week duration; multiple subdomain comparisons without correction; single centre.
Supplements Studied
The results showed no statistically significant difference between two groups in all three time-points in overall cognitive performance score and its 6 parameters (P > 0.05).
