Comparison between Acupuncture and Nutraceutical Treatment with Migratens in Patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome

    Schweiger V

    Published in Nutrients

    Methodology

Randomised comparative trial allocating fibromyalgia patients to acupuncture or the Migratens nutraceutical for 12 weeks, with FIQ, VAS pain, fatigue and sleep questionnaires at baseline, mid-point and end.

    Key Findings

In 55 patients with fibromyalgia, both acupuncture and the nutraceutical Migratens (containing coenzyme Q10, magnesium, riboflavin and related nutrients) over 12 weeks reduced pain, fatigue and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire scores versus baseline, with acupuncture producing faster relief and comparable outcomes at study end.

    Conclusions

A micronutrient nutraceutical achieved fibromyalgia symptom improvements comparable to acupuncture over 12 weeks, though the absence of a placebo arm makes non-specific effects likely.

    Limitations

No placebo or untreated control group, small sample, unblinded comparison of two very different interventions, subjective outcomes, and short 12-week duration.
