Rhodiola rosea supplementation on sports performance: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials

Methodology
Systematic review of 13 randomised controlled trials (263 healthy participants) of acute and chronic Rhodiola rosea supplementation on muscle damage and physical performance, searched to March 2023.
Key Findings
Results were heterogeneous: 11 of 13 studies reported some positive effect on measures such as perceived exertion, heart rate, antioxidant capacity, blood lactate, creatine kinase or C-reactive protein, while 2 showed no effect.
Conclusions
Rhodiola rosea may modestly benefit perceived exertion and markers of muscle damage in healthy exercisers, but dose and protocol heterogeneity limits firm conclusions.
Limitations
Small total sample across trials, wide variation in dosing and supplementation timing, no meta-analysis performed.
